What is the Home Upgrade Grant?

If you’re concerned about the cost of your energy bills and looking for ways to make your home cheaper to heat, you could be eligible for funded energy efficient upgrades under the Home Upgrade Grant. These energy-efficient upgrades, often referred to as retrofitting, make your home warmer and cheaper to heat. The grant conditions are a ‘fabric-first’ approach, meaning insulation measures will be prioritised over renewables such as solar panels or heat pumps.

All measures are subject to funding available and a survey from a qualified installer.

How does the funding work?

The government is investing £12 billion in Help to Heat schemes to make sure homes are warmer and cheaper to heat. One of these schemes includes the Home Upgrade Grant, also known as HUG. The funding is not delivered directly by the government but through installers, local authorities and energy companies.

As one of the UK’s trusted installers, we’re here to help you get the funding you deserve! We’ve helped thousands of customers over the years. You can see what they have to say about us, and most importantly, the funded work they’ve received.

Am I eligible for the Home Upgrade Grant?

Energy-efficient measures delivered under the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) help low-income households tackle fuel poverty. These improvements help with reduced energy bills, a warmer home and supporting the UK in making progress towards net zero in 2050.

Up to £630 million of grant funding was awarded to successful local authorities to help them deliver HUG. Funding is only available to certain postcodes in England, and applications need to be made through your local council. We can check if your area has received funding and help with your application and install.

To be eligible for funding under the Home Upgrade Grant you will need to be:

  • on a low income (under £36,000 per household)
  • off the gas grid
